Tiki and his story
Tiki is a beautiful African Grey parrot with an incredible personality and an even more important story.
He was originally gifted to a toddler with the best of intentions, but parrots are not pets that should ever be given as gifts. They are highly intelligent, long-lived companions that require extensive research, daily enrichment, specialized care, and often significant household and lifestyle adjustments.
Despite loving him, Tiki's previous family realized they could not provide the level of care he truly needed. He became so understimulated and bored that he began taking the screws out of his cage, a clear sign of just how intelligent and desperate for enrichment African Greys can become.
Our journey with Tiki began when a veterinarian we worked with reached out, asking if we could help find a permanent home for a friend's bird. It was clear to us that he, like so many other birds deserved a second chance and he deserved a chance to thrive.
Tiki became one of our greatest inspirations. His story opened our eyes to how many parrots are surrendered through no fault of their own, simply because their owners were unprepared for the lifelong commitment these remarkable birds require. He is a big part of why we chose to open our home to birds in need and begin our foster and rescue program.
Today, every bird we help carries a piece of Tiki's legacy. His adopter, Sandra, has become an invaluable member of our team, and together they continue to inspire the work we do every day. Tiki's journey is a reminder that education, compassion, and responsible ownership can change a bird's life forever.
Tiki and Sandra will always be an important part of our rescue family, and their story continues to inspire hope for every bird that comes through our doors.
